Giving Art a Bite

In progress photos of the body casing that will house the finished vertebra.

I wanted to keep the rough texture on the body and don’t intend to sand it down like I did for my other body piece.

I intend to put more work into the chest I had originally planned to make a python out of axe bandages to bind the chest but it didn’t work out at all.

These are some of the in progress photos of the spine I was working on.

This caused me a lot of grief since the air drying clay I used became more fragile and lots of vertebra broke and kept breaking, I had to even discard a few in the end.

The material taking place of the cartilage is silicone caulking. Which worked very well and came out beautifully.

Work in progress

The iron pour was successful, my seahorses made it. Currently working on getting the shell off, already broke some of the kelp though

So these are my two works in progress. The first one is my butterflies which will be sort of the main focus in my site specific on campus. The second one is a wall installation the body being the main piece and the hands which were revamped (I didn’t have any newer pictures though) and they will be fixed to the front, pulling the breasts off of the body.

Now. These have to be finished Thursday. The site specific has to actually be installed on Thursday and the body will be getting entered into and annual juried art show, that is if it makes it.

Today is also the Iron Pour. I will hopefully be helping out on campus for that and may get some nice pictures. Keep your fingers crossed that my shell around my seahorses holds up, I ended up having to rush the drying and dipping times.

Just wanted to give a little update

I am swamped in my sculpture projects right now but hopefully at the end of the week I can upload the finished products since they are all due in three days.

This is actually a self portrait I modified based on how I feel seeing many interactions with the LGBTQIA community. Recently with the conflict in Arizona towards transgender people I feel that this needs to be said. We are all Human beings and we should be treating each other as such. There should be no pause to think that everyone should be equal.

Just wanted to show you guys what I’m working on right now. Currently this is all wax, I am almost done and then I can gate it and dip it in slurry. So in about a month it should be cast in iron and then I can finish it :)
